Vienna! The land of Opera, Mozart, and beautiful buildings. Continuing on my trip from Bratislava, we stopped over at Vienna for three days. We had booked a day trip to Salzburg for one day so that essentially gave me only two days to explore the place. These are my highlights from the trip!
1) Schonbrunn Palace
Do not miss this beautiful palace. It’s located a little away from the town center so you would have to take the metro. It has beautiful exteriors, and the interior space is now being used for exhibitions and museums. The best part about this palace is undoubtedly its magical gardens. You can explore for hours! Don’t forget to go to the top of the hill near the arch to get great views of the city.
2) Wiener Riesenrad
This giant wheel is a lot like the London Eye, except that it’s much older. In fact, it opened it 1897! The pathway leading up to the Ferris wheel gives you interesting information about the history of Vienna through miniature landscapes and models. The ride itself is around ten euros, and you get panoramic views of Vienna!
3) Watching a Concert
You can’t go to Vienna and not watch a concert! The concert we saw included a mix of everything including a beautiful orchestra, ballet, and opera. All-in-one. It was a one-of-a-kind experience.
4) St. Stephan’s Cathedral

A beautiful gothic cathedral with amazing interiors. We lit a candle inside and prayed at the altar.
5) Walk around the historic center
You should walk around Vienna by foot. Trust me. Don’t take the hop-on-hop-off unless you can’t help it. One spot I particularly liked was right outside the National Museum of Vienna. There is a huge open space with a garden.
